I agree that it's any 80's emcees... cats say they wont listen to hip hop "before X year" and meanwhile they're missing out on PE, Schooly D, Whodini, Juice Crew, etc. cause some dummy says the flows was wack FOH
I don't think people using overrated the way they using it correct. Nas and Jay-Z put the next floor up in the house of hip-hop. It can be taken for granted now and I think so is where overrated is in the discussion about their contributions to hip-hop. And, and... it's mostly young dudes who don't care for the literariness of hip-hop history and performance that requires above-average lyricism. Why should they? They grew up when hip-hop was less about lyrics and more about setting the scene for a function.
