Meaning, are they more official?
Is it more official to get a plaque from Streaming then it was from selling ringtones?

Streaming awards aren't based on "people listening for free"(Pandora radio or any auto-generated playlist app). Steaming numbers only account for "on demand" streaming i.e. paid services where you have to find the song and click play(Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Soundcloud,etc).No. People actually bought ringtones. So if you sold one million ringtones, you got a platinum plaque.
Any plaque based in part on people listening for free, is fake plat.
Effective Feb. 1, RIAA will include on-demand audio and video streams and a track sale equivalent in Gold & Platinum (G&P’s) Album Award. The modernization of the program’s album rule follows a similar update made to digital single certifications in 2013, when the RIAA first added on-demand streams to its Digital Single Award. Collectively, this now means that the program’s iconic benchmarks – 500,000 (Gold), 1,000,000 (Platinum) and 2,000,000 plus (multi-Platinum) – will count both sales and streams for single and album certifications.

Yea. I mean it's a different time/era, we gotta realize that. Streaming is the present and future. And given how hip hop is dominating this shyt it's pretty damn good to see. People are making money and getting their shyt heard. Next step is to increase the $ artists/labels receive for stream.Streaming awards aren't based on "people listening for free"(Pandora radio or any auto-generated playlist app). Is there a way to juke the numbers? Sure, but that's always been possible with labels buying back albums. That rumor didn't spawn in the 90's from no where.
The only reason I would be for Streaming Plaques over Ringtone Plaques is because you have to at least listen to the full song for it to count as a play...Ringtone plays are basically rewarding an artist just because some bought a 20 second clip of their songNo. People actually bought ringtones. Fair point. So allow me to clarify. While you are correct that the consumer is paying a monthly subscription fee for access to the entire library of whichever streaming platform it is, they are not paying specifically for that song. That is drastically different from going to a record store and buying a single or going on itunes and buying a specific song.Streaming awards aren't based on "people listening for free"(Pandora radio or any auto-generated playlist app).
This new world is misleading.its a new world. you dudes are dinosaurs
As to the bolded...is that really true? I'm genuinely asking. The only reason I would be for Streaming Plaques over Ringtone Plaques is because you have to at least listen to the full song for it to count as a play...Ringtone plays are basically rewarding an artist just because some bought a 20 second clip of their song
Is that right or am I wrong on that?
If I stream a song dozens of times I bought that bytchFair point. So allow me to clarify. Streaming is a relevant measure, but to try to equate it to sales is silly. There should be separate plaques for sales and streaming. It would just be more plaques for the artists and more certification fees for RIAA to charge. I'm shocked they didn't do it the way I'm suggesting in the first place.
