I think it's only for the white skin types but I'm not too sure. cuz since the moors from Arab invaded Spain, then the Spanish conquered over in south America, that's where the mix came from. Lots of words and dishes from the Spanish community are based on Arabic origins. Whites were from places like England and Italy, places like that. Sometimes you can tell the difference between the two. Pretty much all Latin American countries have afro latinos. Mostly in Caribbean and central America. Those were the ones that got more Indian blood or also remember that Spain, the middle east and north Africa are all right there on the Mediterranean so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some mixtures back then. Out here you see plenty of people with some strange combinations that they tell you their background and your like, wow that's rare to see. And there is plenty of non Hispanic black people that speak Spanish. I've noticed it mostly for men, not women tho.

yeah down here they learn the language just by being around Hispanics. I bet it's similar in places like L.A.. Any west coast posters have any input on that?

I'm guessing you live in Miami? I don't think someone can actually become fluent in Spanish just by living around Hispanics though, one would have to actively try to learn the language.
