His 10 pro bowls is misleading though as he was a replacement pick for 5 out of the 10 selections. To me those should hold no weight. I don't think he gets in. He has the Super Bowl with two appearances. But only 1 all-pro. For that Super Bowl win the team was build on D and the run game more than being built around him. He was never dominant or consistently looked at as a top 5 QB. For every other position you had to be one of the elite to get in, yet with QB it seems we lower the bar and accept good to get in.
From 2015 thru 2020 Russ was a Top 5 QB. I don't know how the conversation about him has shifted so far in the other direction.
Russ
Ryan
Brady
Mahomes
Brees
Rodgers
These are the Top 6 quarterbacks from that era in time. A few guys had flashes (Cam, Palmer, Wentz, Goff); a few guys came up at the tail end of this window (Lamar, Josh); a few old guys were still good but aging out (Rivers, Roethlisberger)...
But the 6 most consistently great QBs of the era are the guys I named above. Nobody in real time ever truly thought Matty Ice was a better player than Russ, though you can give him the '16 season specifically.
The Pro Bowls should count for Russ' consideration but what should matter more, is there was a window/era in time, that Russ was a legitimate Top 5 player, for over a half-decade. THAT, is why he's a Hall of Famer.
