Agreed.

Sherm getting in eventually but shouldn't be first ballot. Same with Russ. Russ might be going out sad but his 10 pro bowl selections are the 6th most all time at QB tied with ARod. He's getting in.
His 10 pro bowls is misleading though as he was a replacement pick for 5 out of the 10 selections. To me those should hold no weight. I don't think he gets in. He has the Super Bowl with two appearances. But only 1 all-pro. For that Super Bowl win the team was build on D and the run game more than being built around him. He was never dominant or consistently looked at as a top 5 QB. For every other position you had to be one of the elite to get in, yet with QB it seems we lower the bar and accept good to get in.

Watch it as @CHICAGO is going to come in sensitive about you saying Russ isn't HOF worthy.

That counts for everyone else tho

Not advocating for first ballot

He def was a top 5 QB during a stretch. Let's not get out of hand

Truth be told the only cats who should be first ballot qbs playing today or not in yet are Tom, Brees, and eventually ARod

Mahomes is already first ballot if he retired tomorrow. He already has the five super bowl appearances and 3 Super Bowls, 2 MVPs, and 3 Super Bowl MVPs. He's a no doubter first ballot HOF already.

Mahomes would be first ballot right now without question. I would say Lamar would be first ballot right now even without a Super Bowl Championship based on what he's accomplished in a short period of time, but if someone wants to say he'd get in, but not first ballot RIGHT NOW, I wouldn't argue it. I can't agree with Mahomes not being one right now. I don't use the word "lock" often, but he's a first ballot lock, even right now.

Yeah he falls into that Kurt Warner Terrel Davis territory where even if they don't have the longevity they had those flat out dominant few years amongst the greatest in NFL history history. It negates the lack of longevity.

I put Terrel Davis and Kurt Warner in another category. They each had 3-4 great seasons, but that is really it. I actually don't have a problem with them making the HOF and I'd rather see players that peak like them make it than longevity players. I can't put Mahomes with them as he's had a longer and better career so far. I do get what you're saying though.

I don't think we'll really ever see players that have the career of Davis/Warner get in. I think those are close to the exceptions.

LETS GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT.

HE HAS 4 REPLACEMENT SELECTIONS
WHICH MEANS HE HAS 6 REAL SELECTIONS.

EVERY ELGIBLE QB WITH 5
REAL SELECTIONS IS IN THE HOF.

HE LEAD THE LEAGUE IN TDS
OR FINISHED IN THE TOP 3
FOR 4 STRAIGHT SEASONS
ON TOP OF THE ALL PRO SELECTION.

IM SURE YOU MENTIONED BIG BEN IN
THIS THREAD OF HAS NO ALL PRO SELECTIONS

From 2015 thru 2020 Russ was a Top 5 QB. I don't know how the conversation about him has shifted so far in the other direction.

Russ
Ryan
Brady
Mahomes
Brees
Rodgers

These are the Top 6 quarterbacks from that era in time. A few guys had flashes (Cam, Palmer, Wentz, Goff); a few guys came up at the tail end of this window (Lamar, Josh); a few old guys were still good but aging out (Rivers, Roethlisberger)...

But the 6 most consistently great QBs of the era are the guys I named above. Nobody in real time ever truly thought Matty Ice was a better player than Russ, though you can give him the '16 season specifically.

The Pro Bowls should count for Russ' consideration but what should matter more, is there was a window/era in time, that Russ was a legitimate Top 5 player, for over a half-decade. THAT, is why he's a Hall of Famer.
