Ive been doing IT for 25 years, no lie. I was 15/16 with a computer job in 1997/98. :whew:I wasn't even called IT back then.

I'm now 41 and have another 25 years or so to retirement. :huhldup:Seems crazy to do anything for 50 years. Eat my dust Lebron :lolbron:

Anyhow, I'm far from the best worker and have slowly made my way to decent money. I could've been making great money 10 - 15 years ago. One of my homeboys/roommate I went to Navy IT school with was making 200k years ago. He's one of those super dedicated, great test takers, class leader types. I was chasing cars and women and still wouldn't change a thing. Over the last year my IT skills have grown and my knowledge on how to maneuver and excel has grown too. And feeling like I can see myself coasting into retirement in the IT field if need be. Definitely still have some entrepreneur goals in mind. In the past I was as confident in my skills and belief I could make good money and support a family. My biggest fear is having a family and not being able to provide for. That fear ruined my last relationship, but that fear was real living in Shreveport with no so many IT jobs. Now I'm almost confident I can get a decent job in most major cities. I have a clearance, the down side to it is you become a slave to it and only a few cities have a lot of Clearance Jobs, DC being #1.

How do yall feel about where you are in your career and moving towards retirement?

Yeah I plan on doing my career till I retire. I'm an Air traffic controller, we have mandatory retirement at 56, and eligible to retire at either 50 or after 25 yrs of working (whichever is first).

The thought of having to work in the same building with the same people talking to the same planes in the same airspace for the rest of my life is kinda depressing in a way... But as of now I'm not bored with it and content.

The $$ and the pension along with benefits and job stability make the schedule and everything else seem worth it

Whatever field you’re in, understand that the conditions you currently have, however favorable, aren’t guaranteed to last forever. Save as much of your money as you can. As a black person, if/when the world goes to sh1t you need to be able to protect and provide for your loved ones.

Nothing wrong with doing something that makes you comfy, b.

Personally, I gotta strike out on my own before my final transition to the Uppah Rooooom. Wanna die regretless.:wow:

My mom told me you have to work; if you can't find a career that you love, find something that gives you the lifestyle you want

Imagine waking up and going somewhere you hate, then coming home to something you also hate.

What kind of life is that.
:francis:

My jobs not something crazy to brag about; my cousin working in the US is touching almost 300k with bonuses working in finance and he loves it, happy for him.

I dont love my job but im good at it and it fits my work life balance plus im in a union so in this crazy economy i got job security unless they start laying off people but still im high up in seniority. As someone in his early 40s i definately want to transition to an easier job with a better schedule even if its less dough

As a breh that hates change, I ain’t leaving here. 10yrs deep another 25 to go.

It’ll be her for my son as well since nepotism runs rampant in this company.

I didn’t make the rules :manny:

Naw, there’s too much money to be made out here for me to be at the same job for 30+ years.

I know too many people who don’t work 9 to 5 jobs for me to stick to one long term.

No.

It pays the bills and I can retire eventually but I'll probably explore other ventures before that happens.

I'm going to be a famous comedian one dah, and ill drop hints that I used to post on The Coli from time to time.

I really wanna know what some of yall are doing in terms of “retirement”

Yall got a pension? Yall maxing out your 401k? You have a set amount that you wanna hit?

I only ask cause the vast majority of people are living paycheck to paycheck in this country. They aren’t saving for retirement and will depend on SS or other forms of government aid
