Are you supposed to feel something when you hug people?

I never liked folks touching me. Prefer having my own personal space. Even folks touching stuff I own like my guitars and amplifiers

I wouldn't say my family is a hugging fam per say outside of certain people like my dad, grandma, and aunt

My great unc used to squeeze the fukk out of us growing up, so I hated that shyt :russ:

But even when I hug family and friends, I don't really feel nothing other than you know, the fact I'm physically touching them. One of those things I don't initiate but do to be polite or comfort someone I care about

But for me personally, I get the same emotions out of it as a handshake

So I never put too much thought into it forreal. But me and my homegirl were on the subject the other day, and she was talking about how it lifts the mood and gives this warm feeling. I never gave that a thought, so now it got me wondering am I missing something. Cause i dont get it:patrice:

But what about yall? Yall affectionate with your people's or more reserved?

I think saying "supposed to" is dangerous as everyone is different, but yes, generally speaking A LOT of people are very disconnected, ungrounded and may not be sensitive to everything that goes on in the brain/body when you make such physical contact, especially skin to skin, heart to heart.

There is a great deal of benefit to be had from hugging along the lines of nervous system regulation, uptick of oxytocic, dopamine ect. even if you can't feel it.

A good portion of us are touch starved and either search for it in unhealthy ways (this is why you see a lot of grade/high school kids horseplaying) or just kinda function in a desensitized state.
