Area Hospital Employees Arrested in Connection with Abuse of Patient

CHATTAHOOCHEE, Fla. -- Three employees of the Florida State Hospital in Gadsden County have been arrested in connection with the abuse of a wheelchair-bound patient.
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi's office said Thursday that 56-year-old Robert Blackman attempted to punch a disabled resident before shoving their head down and pushing them into a wall.
Authorities say 27-year-old Shabrika Butler and 49-year-old Janice James witnessed the incident and did not report the alleged abuse as required by state law.
Blackman faces two felony counts of abuse of a disabled adult and faces 10 years in prison and over $10,000 in fines if convicted. He has since been released from jail on $7500 bond.
Butler and James each face charges of failing to report abuse of a disabled adult, a misdemeanor. They have both been released on $500 bond.
Blackman is no longer employed by the hospital.
