Yes. You should not try to understand art, you either like it cause it's visually aesthetic or you like it cause it speaks to you.

The only person that understands the actual art is the artist.

Right. Jay went out and did exactly what white folks did to Basquiat art...bought it cause it's hot and chic. He never tried to learn about the piece or the man. A lot of Basquiat art takes intelligence and research to learn. Plus he was sarcastic as fukk in each pieces that has words. You need a dictionary and Google to understand his work.

What frustrates me as an artist is when folk wanna analyze every fukking thing in a piece. Sometimes I fukked up and made it work, or sometimes it's just there. Nothing behind it. That's why you should just look at the work itself and appreciate it as is, cause I'm not gonna write a dissertation about every piece of art I did.

My nudes are because I like big black areolas and I look at black women as goddesses. Nothing intellectual about it.
