I show my kids all the time how math is important... everytime we im the store besides the typical adding there's algebra and etc...
I'm an engineer and so I find patterns in everything which freaks alot of people out because of my semi-rainman stare at times .... but i'm just studying surroundings..

It is what it is ... look, I'm a NY State Licensed Engineer .. I work for the city so salaries arent comparable with private companies ... and thats all I can say ... dont know who's watching...

Cousin-in-law graduated from MIT with a BSCV in '04 and still not seen 100k/yr.

He could make 150k/yr as a construction project manager but that's hard with a wife and 2 kids, he said he'll make some moves once his kids are in high school.

Same here... I'm state licensed so I can do alot of other side stuff (with city gov't approval of course ...wink) but sometimes making 70 and living peaceful is more rewarding than making 150 and getting a heart attack from stress and being so busy you dont see your family and wonder why your wife smashing your best friend...

Gotta know how to play the game, 80% of the U.S. population are pretty much working for billionaires. Because 80% of the U.S. population only owns 20% of the wealth.

I think this is a bit deceptive because a lot of science based jobs that rely a lot on math are really blue collar in nature.

Being a chemist, doing engineering, geology, ecologist, etc, a lot of them are often working with their hands doing blue collar like work. Even my biology professors were often out in the fields doing research, collecting specimens, doing soil samples, etc. Even if you aren't going to be using quadratic equations every time you clock in at work, it's important to have those skills. They rely on logic and it's important for all workers and business owners to understand logic.

Even with programming, you're practically programming logical functions into a computer. If *blank* then *blank*, display *blank* when *blank*, etc.:ehh:

Oldest brother is an Engineer, he told me first-hand he could've done his job with just a HS education because of the level of math required, and I've seen this as well myself. There's a lot of smoke and mirrors out here in regards to what you really NEED to know in terms of mathematics, but to refute it's importance? Ehhh....we don't need any more reasons to water down our education here in the states.
