So much opinion and genuine emotion. WWE must think all of their christmases and birthdays have come together. I bet they would have killed for their space back at the ‘water cooler’ after the Attitude corpse was well and truly cold.
And who would have guessed where all that ‘cooler’ chatter was going to come out of? A beautifully told story that's happening mostly off screen - or in wrestling speak, "backstage."
Nearly three years after it started with a Wrestlemania embarrassment, they have firmly grabbed the Daniel Bryan situation by the neck - creatively speaking.
Bryan is tweeting about ‘the machine’ keeping him away from the Rumble and how ’they can never keep US down.’ etc. That’s a pretty good sign that someone somewhere has given him a direction.
Even my buddy Mick Foley is dropping F bombs at the treatment of Bryan. It looked like the Hardcore Legend said his piece and behind him a line formed hundreds and thousands long. There's been outrage the likes of which I have never seen or heard before.
Just like they hoped.
Organic, fan driven but company backed wrestlers have always rose the highest and drew the most. The most obvious case in recent history in Austin. Which side of the black curtain was he christened first? Austin did the ground work, the fans showed up with their signs and vocals and WWE/F brought up the rear with their rocket and strapped him in. It was perfect harmony. And the Austin line isn't as foreign to this scenario as it might seem either.
The Owners don't see the current fan-picked Superstar as the face of the company. The Owners then do everything in their power to make sure that Superstar doesn't get the opportunities and title shots that he now deserves. They will screw him at every turn to keep the integrity of the title intact. Sound familiar?
But what about Bryan? Where’s the perfect harmony for him? He's certainly done his part and the fans can do no more that they're doing. So where's WWE? It looks like they're blocking and nixing something special at every turn. They're behaviour is driving the fans crazy.
Just like they hoped.
The WWE stumbled into this phenomenon with a disrespectful 18 second match. They have fumbled and stumbled their way through hugs, love triangles and trolls, to some of the most passionate, animated fan responses in decades.
Whether viewers agree it was all one, long, grand plan or whether fans believe it to be utter creative incompetence and ego - the Daniel Bryan story has been the most interesting piece of TV in years.
After the Royal Rumble, the wrestling world wanted WWE to have the good grace to get out of the way and go find Daniel Bryan that rocket. The thing is, they've already measured Bryan up and have had several fittings.
Just like they planned.

bryan is succeeding in spite of them not because of them
