Instead of just being able to enjoy all the beautiful music black people have produced around the world y'all stay stuck on these hashtag acronyms and diaspora rivalries. First reply to this thread is some jackass trying to undermine this woman's entire talent because she admired Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway. That's what you invited to this thread rather than any appreciation of Sade herself. People are getting completely tired with this FBA, ADOS weirdo shyt. Some of us want to get back to simply celebrating our culture(s) without all these noxious ethnic purity litmus tests.

Stop bytching about ADOS all the time sheesh. ADOS is an ethnic identifier like any other nothing more.

ADOS is a right wing hashtag conceived by John Tanton, dedicated to suppressing black voter turnout and engineering political opinion against Democrats and in favor of Republicans. Ain't no one in real life calling themselves "ADOS," only a bunch of weirdos online trying to conflate their shallow right wing view with pro-black causes.

Sade herself was born Helen Folasade Adu in Nigeria, to a Nigerian academic and an English nurse, in 1959. Four years later, after her parents split up, she moved to England with her mother, settling in Clacton-on-Sea, in Essex, and where she would eventually start listening to Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Nina Simone, Curtis Mayfield and Bill Withers.

As a teenager she saw The Jackson 5 at the Rainbow Theatre in London’s Finsbury Park, where she was working as a barmaid. “I was more fascinated by the audience,” she said. “They’d attracted kids, mothers with children, old people, white, black. I was really moved. That’s the audience I’ve always aimed for.”

Nigeria ain't really have nothing to do with it:sas2: but yeah shout out to smooth ass butta voice Sade one of the GOATs

Nigeria has nothing to do with someone born in Nigeria and born to a Nigerian father?

Just say you hate Nigeria, carry your wahala and go.

:unimpressed:

As someone who hates the Nigerian state, wallahi tallahi the Coli is funny.
