Socialism doesn’t work, it sounds great in theory but....
Because they wanna hang on to power indefinitely. Simple.
In banana republics, thuggish administrations create food shortages either by choice - to punish their political opponents - or through their bad policies and ineptitude wreaking the economy. Maduro is doing both.
Hugo Chavez started all this Bolivarian revolution nonsense because he was a power hungry thug who promised the poor Venezuelans unlimited give aways if they voted for him. He plundered the country to pay for his hare brained welfare schemes, destroyed the currency by printing too much of it to pay for said programs, in the short term it worked brilliantly, people were happy and voted for him election after election, but he bankrupted the country, confiscated private property, destroyed the rule of law. The bus driver who succeeded him just followed the same disastrously failed policies.
