I stop diesel trains in the same spots everyday. It’s more than possible, especially with electric light rail trains.

you’re expecting every driver to stop in the exact spot at every station running trains 24/7? We have some 460+ stations. It’s not happening without CBTC on every line as CBTC does stop in the exact same spot at every station by design.
Yes. Your engineer is a lot more capable than you give them credit for. It wouldn’t even be a complicated adjustment. We don’t just pull into stations praying the train stops.

The issue with platform doors on the NYC subway is the doors on the different car classes don't line up the same.
On the letter lines, some cars on 75FT, while the others are 60FT. On the numbered lines the doors doors on the newer trains don't line up the same way as the older cars. Also you gotta worry about snow messing up the doors on outdoor lines. I assume those modern systems in other countries were built with platform doors in mind so they aren't as vulnerable to snow, etc.

I’ve seen trains over shoot myself. Lmao it’s not an issue when you don’t have to align with doors but it’s slow af to have to come in to every single station at the exact same spot manually. Will add shyt tons of time with the train doing it automatically

You’ve seen trains that were made 3 million years ago overshoot themselves. Modern tech can 10/10 make a train stop at the exact same spot every single time. And no it wouldn’t be that difficult neither.
Its easy to do when there is no real penalty. But if there is a spot that has to be hit, the focus is different. I’m just saying it’s a more than viable idea
