First :salute: anyone in here that came to give me advice...I appreciate it..

So

I've been working at the same place since 2010 when I was 24. It's a corporate gig :manny: but my current role as a manager is pretty laid back:

my team is thriving so no stress on me :whew:
I'm on the coli all day
got my MBA for free :myman:
I make just over 6 figures
I leave at 3:30 every day :blessed:

I've been able to stack and invest quite a bit of money, blow some money and have fun in my 20s, try and fail at a few business ventures, and live a decent life (nothing unbelievably great but above average). But it's definitely at a flat line. I won't be making much more money any time soon (or ever), promotions are not on the horizon, and so I'm in this area of a very good living but that's kinda it. This job gives me the flexibility to save good money and possibly pursue side ventures.

I recently interviewed for a new position with a start up. They are in my same sector and the organizational structure is flat (ie no boss for me if I came in). They want to start their "sales" division and I would be heading the division (first as a front line sales person and then hiring beneath me). Here would be the specs:

less rigid schedule (not in the same office each day for the same time)
less money :patrice:
more organizational autonomy :ehh:
AMAZING title (Vice President of Business Development :noah:)
Huge career upside down the line and a better future in 5 years

The second gig would allow me to be more creative which is a trait I don't get to readily use in my current role. I would also be on the ground floor of something that could grow massively.

At 30, I'm getting the itch to make a jump. I see people who work "just to get by" and I don't want my ambition to just die because I make decent money. On the other hand, my current job is incredibly stable and if I play my cards correctly I can use the extra money to start a side business, I just haven't been able to successfully yet.

So Coli brehs and brehettes...thoughts? Anyone been in a similar position?

I think the answer depends on how ambitious you are to start your own business. If you're very serious about starting your own and have plans in place to do so, then I would stay at your current job for the stability and flexibility to do your thing on the side. If you're wishy washy and not really serious then I'd take the start up role because it seems to me your life has gotten stale and you need something new, regardless of the stability or money.

Thing with start ups is understand you are sacrificig stability which is the only reason i feel anyone should work for someone else. My philosiphy is if being an entreprenuer is your thing then use being employed by someone else only was a way to access capital and have benefits.

I may have misread something though

I would stay put and stack money while networking with entrepreneurs and looking for possible investments to make. Doesn't make sense to throw away a stable situation that isn't bad at all. Make the jump for the right reasons at the right time. If you hated your current role, I would recommend making the jump now, but you seem to be doing all right where you're at.

If you're serious about starting something then why compound the stress of that with joining a startup which there will be more financial and job security unknowns along with less free time? :dahell:
