At what point did the internet become a giant echo chamber?

The same shyt i see on here be the same shyt i see on reddit, be the same shyt i see on youtube, be the same shyt i see on Twitter, etc. It could be the most random thing ever like a video on YouTube from 2013 gets recommended to me, that same video video will be posted on reddit 5 times over in the same day, posted on worldstar, then multuple threads on here for the same video. I dont remember it being like this a few years ago, or maybe i just wasnt paying attention.

You basically laid it out in your post: the beginning of Social Media.

This was a layer of the internet that didn’t exist for OGs like us who were on MSN/AOL chat, BP, AHH/SOHH boards but with the creation of social media, the internet exploded. Now people find their niche segments of their interests on the internet and these echo chambers get louder and louder.

once algorithms stepped in to decide for you what you want based on a short passage, new algorithms keep getting developed to more or less do the same thing

very hard to undo algorithms that are built on top of existing natural algorithms.
