Atheist/Agnostic Folks: When you told your family you didn't fukk with religion, how'd they take it?

I'm tired of having to pretend I still believe in something I haven't in a long time. Being a preacher's kid specifically, I know if I told my parents they'd either just yell at me or go to the extreme and possibly disown me because to them I'm "subscribing to a life of sin" but on the other hand, now that I'm gradually getting financially independent, I feel now is a better time than ever to let them know.

How did y'all break it to your family, if you did?

He ain't try to convince me...tho cause he ain't super into it either

My mom probably thinks I am going to hell if she knew...but IDC...

I do my own thing, it's none of their business...I just don't go to church and when nikkas pray I eyes keep my open....cause holding hands and closing eyes is weird.

I haven't told my mother and I never will because she'd legit cry. She's such a nice person and so good to everyone that I couldn't picture breaking her heart like that.

I did tell my dad last year. He started it. He asked me if I still believed because every time he would talk about something Christian related I would be dead silent. I told him, we got into it and he said he felt hurt and disappointed. Slowly but surely he was trying to force it on me afterwards but I wasn't going for it. He let it go for some months and recently he's been saying "Man K I've been tryin to tell you never leave god's side because he'll bless you. You are favored" and all that other bullshyt that's going one ear out the other.

well my dad my looked me in the eye and told me I reminded him of that guy. I went five years not talking to him over that.

Thanks for Sharing. Yeah...I don't know how my father would take it seeing how he's a fire and brimstone preacher. Pretty sure they haven't caught on that I'm dead silent and my eyes are open during "family prayer time" because they're babbling so loud with their eyes shut tight.

My mother's father became an atheist a little before she became a full on christian before meeting my father, and I always heard her say "I wish I could've brought my dad back to Christ before he died. I don't even want to think about where he is" and I'd be thinking "I'm sure he's fine chiling in the afterlife whatever that is... Basically, the way they are IDK if I should tell them.
