Wifey and I are moving to the ATL in September and we REALLY need a good church home.

Like, we PREFER a Black Baptist experience. Nothing wrong with a white pastor and a mixed congregation singing old hymns and whatnot, but we’re coming from a church that gets BUSY with its music ministry and want a similar experience.

Can y'all recommend some good Baptist churches in the city for this type of experience? (also, please keep locale in mind, if you can. We’re likely moving to either the Lawrenceville or Snellville areas…). our pastor will of course recommend us to some quality spots he knows down there through his associations, but we want a LIST of places to check out and pick from, yunno?

Thanks in advance, friends.

ATL…overly
Damn y'all gonna be all the way out in Gwinnett :whew:

Not really familiar with the church life up in the Northside like that. @Atlrocafella you know of any good churches out there in South Gwinnett/Gwinnett/Hall County?

You asking for church advice on the-coli? :mjlol:

It's a couple of Christian cats on here heavy, I know the bul @kevm3 is a believer but I don't think he lives in ATL.

Damn y'all gonna be all the way out in Gwinnett :whew:

Yeah, my sisters live out that way. Pretty nice area, reminds me alot of South Jersey with how you can dip in and out of the city while remaining relatively close to ere'thing. I've always said, South Jerz (particularly Gloucester and Camden Counties) ain't nothing but a big ass suburb of Philadelphia anyway.

Also, if we have to come down towards the city to go to a church there, we will. It’s not so much about proximity as it is getting the right experience.

give me a couple hours I'll come back to y'all.

Good looks, like I said our pastor will of course recommend us by letter, but we want a nice cross-section of choices.

‘Preciate the responses, y’all.

Proximity ain't a big deal....until you start trying to make it through traffic for 5+ hours between downtown and lawrencville on the highways with Falcons playing on Sunday mornings :usure::usure:

Was waiting for you to come in here, brotha, lol…

We’re not against megachurches whatsoever, just as long as the ministry is right, yunno?

So any recommendations are great, thanks.
Well you' want the traditional black baptist experience, great choir, a mix of modern and classic praise and worship songs, pretty good sermons, and a good church building and atmosphere. I recommend the following 2 megachurches:

Greater Travelers Rest- Dr. E Dewey Smith

Berean Christian church- Pastor kerwin lee
( the Gwinnett location is headed by pastor Kevin Lee, which is a smaller church)

Not really. It really depends on the ministry, on the whether the pastor is a “teaching” pastor” or a ”pulpit pastor". There’s definitely a difference and it’s difficult if not undesirable to go from a teaching ministry to one that is not. It’s almost like taking a step down in your walk, IMO.

And by “teaching ministry” I mean…..like, our current pastor is a learned PhD with a great grasp of history, Latin, etc. I think that’s IMPORTANT when you’re trying to teach the Word of God, to have a scholarly approach, almost. This is as opposed to the type of pastor who just gets up there on some “WEEEEEELLLLLL, AHHH….THE LOORRRRRD SAAAAIIID….”. :stopitslime: I mean, if that WORKS for certain people, so be it. But not for me. I'm tryinta get that good Word with some KNOWLEDGE behind it, yunno?

Yeah, that’s the type of stuff we need to be cognizant of, dawggie. ‘Preciate you bringing that up, we do need to consider that.
