Was this ever a thing in any other African country?
In Zimbabwe there was a time men were stripping women who are wearing mini skrits in public. There was even a womens march and all. The government had to take action and some were caught and arrested and jailed and it worked as a good deterrent.
Some years ago I was going to work early one morning and I was wearing a tiny skirt but with these beautiful black lace pantihose with a floral pattern. The pantihose were nice and mostly covered my legs. I had just finished high school and had begun a little business.
I had been catcalled and whistled at and hit on by men as I walked that morning but this group of women came to me when I reached an isolated spot and wanted to strip me. I walked that same route many times and in the usual short skirt but with stockings or leggings which I thought was a good compromise, I loved patterned black pantihose and took every opportunity to wear them. I was in very high stiletto heels and they were chasing me, I had my work files plus my laptop and my hand bag and something I was taking to a client.. I got to a taxi rank near the main post office and I ran towards these, male cab drivers. They saw the women and one of the men stood between me and the women and asked what was going on.
They told him they were going to strip and beat me for dressing like a slut. The cab drivers were like , "okay go ahead and strip her". The women moved toward me. Then the cab drivers said, BUT after you finish with her we will also strip and beat you". They looked at each other and the women went away. I dont know where the group came from or when they began following me.
I thanked them for saving me. The taxi guys offered to take me where I was going. But the client was just around the block.
My aunt came drove me to my next appointment and my male cousin drove me home. I wont lie I was shook. But I lived to wear a mini skirt another day lol.
I attribute men and women stripping women in mini skirts as a sign of unemployment. There is now a group of unemployed people roaming the street with nothing to do. I cant imagine anyone with a job stopping to first assault someone and risk being late for work. All the reported cases have been of men stripping women, but in my case it was a group of women.
I have long legs so even a "modest" skirt will show more leg and look extra short.
