I would suggest visiting and taking a look around before you choose. Personally I would look at from downtown to South Austin if I was moving there. Your taste might be different. It also depends on where you're working. Traffic can be an issue.

Be out there in June...brehs...what are the cool chill bars, blues/jazz bars...and good food spots? Chill fun stuff that represents Austin?
Listen to double toasted podcast. A bunch of black film critics who bar hop like every other weekend. You can even visit their studio and they'll take you out drinking on the right night. They're hipsters though.

Moving to Austin within the next 2 weeks. Landed a job with Home Depot IT department. Any insights on where I should look for apartments and such?

First of all congratulations! We will have to hang out.

North Austin near the Domain is nice. Accessible to a lot of things.

I forgot where Home Depot IT is. You typically have more established companies such as Oracle, IBM, Dell, etc in North Austin and startups and "sexy" companies such as WP Engine, Google Facebook, Indeed near or in downtown.

So I bet you want something close to action but also close to work.

I'd also look at South Congress and East Riverside in South Austin as well.

I'll be there next week for a conference, staying downtown. I've been before. Is 6th Street the only place to hang out?
Oh yeah...Dirty 6th is moreso for young folks that just started drinking and is the more popular area. Akin to Bourbon Street.

West 6th is more late 20s early 30s crowd. I either hang in West 6th, Rainey sometimes and The Domain (which I live across the street from which is great).

mopac/45 is a nice developing area and close to your work. also domain area has a lot of young professionals. i'd avoid south austin b/c of traffic. congrats on the new gig.
