Xavier Woods promises New Day ‘will make sure that Kofi Kingston becomes champion’

Things have been a little quiet on The New Day front of late.

Since breaking Demolition’s record on Dec. 12, 2016 to become the longest-reigning tag-team champions in WWE history, Xavier Woods, Big E & Kofi Kingston have lost the belts (and a rematch) to Cesaro & Sheamus and embarked on a multi-week comedy program with Titus O’Neil.

Along the way the trio did enter into this year’s Royal Rumble match. And maybe that’s where business starts to pick up. In an interview with The Sporting News, Woods told Brian Fritz a bit about the group’s plans for the future.

First up, for everyone expecting a standard pro wrestling tag team break-up story...
I'm going to die as a member of The New Day. It's not a thing that we'll break up... we're going to enjoy New Day for as long as it lasts and as long as it lasts is going to be forever.
In the short term, while Xavier says that if any of the trio wins the Royal Rumble, “then we all win”, he does have plans for elevating their elder statesman. Kingston is known for memorable Rumble spots, but doesn’t factor in the finish of the match. The New Day are aiming to change that:
And I feel like a lot of the times around Rumble season people start asking him when we're doing signings — “Ah, Kofi, what kind of cool tricks are you going to do? What kind of cool way are you going to kind of get eliminated but then get back in the ring?”

I say the cool trick Kofi is going to do this year is winning the Royal Rumble. That's the coolest trick of all.
And if they can use this Sunday’s battle royal to punch Kingston’s ticket to WrestleMania’s main event, they’ll be one step closer to making the ultimate plan a reality. Not that that’s something X has any doubts about, anyway:
It's not that I want Kofi Kingston to become champion. I will make sure that Kofi Kingston becomes champion. He's a man that deserves it. We don't speak in maybes, ifs, ands or buts. We speak in declarative, demonstrative statements.
Of course, unless Vince McMahon is handing Woods the book, New Day might need more than visualization techniques to make this happen. But it’s a worthy effort.
