Babyface did make hits without LA that was the point of my post
What hits did LA produce without Face?

This is like asking how many hits did Jimmy Jam make without Terry Lewis.

Anyway - Off top I know L.A. wrote & produced “Every Little Step”, because it’s about Pebbles.

L.A. hasn’t even had to touch equipment since he became an executive.

Just like you said, you can listen to a Babyface beat and know it‘s him (and Darryl, or Kato).
Likewise, you can tell the ones with L.A. beats, because he had the bangers.

That’s part of the reason they stopped working together.

Hate the man for what he’s done outside the booth but R Kelly’s production catalog is insane when you really look at it.

But as a non controversial person, Babyface is definitely one of the GOATS.

I took my Mom to the Babyface/Kem concert for Mother's day and Babyface finishes his set with just some of the songs he wrote:wow:
I think he started off with "Rock Steady" from the Whispers, then he did some Bobby Brown (Roni, Every Little Step I Take). He sprinkled some "Can We Talk" and "End of the Road" and even "Take a Bow" from Madonna in just randomly in the middle. Of course he went through all the LAFace hits (TLC, Toni Braxton, etc) and finished it off with a Whitney Houston tribute.:sas1:
I actually opened up his Wiki page in the middle of this because I said to myself we might be here another 2 hours:why:
If you print out his Songwriting Wiki page it would be 21 pages:pachaha:

La reid was a drummer (and you can't take that away from him). but that's what he contributed (not the entire music).
Face played EVERYTHING which is why he didn't need help to make hits. but at points he did have help.
Babyface grew up with a guy named Daryl Simmons.
that was his true writing partner (hence his company Silent Partner Productions).
Simmons played the background, but in actuality, he's done more than la reid himself musically.
la reid did one song without Babyface (stone cold gentleman)
the main writer/producer on that track: Daryl Simmons

in Face's own words:

like Babyface says, him and la weren't even that tight
the La & Face thing was about image
and la parlayed the hell out of it
while others did the creative heavy lifting
