I don't know why ya'll doubt me. Last year I was alone on an island saying Markelle Fultz was a bust. One year in I'm looking like a genius. Before this year's NFL draft, I said Baker Mayfield would be a BUST and thus far I'm looking right on the money once again. Browns fans should worry about Baker Mayfield’s start

The fact that Tyrod Taylor is set to start the season as Cleveland’s starting quarterback isn’t an issue for Browns fans. However, reports that Baker Mayfield is nowhere close to challenging Taylor for the starting job should be causing mild concern in Northeast Ohio.

Specifically, Dan Labbe of the Cleveland Plain Dealer claims that Mayfield “didn’t look ready” to compete with Taylor during OTAs and minicamp. Losing a close race to the veteran Taylor would have been a solid outcome for the Browns. The idea that Mayfield has looked out of his depth so far is a much larger concern.

Remember we’re not talking about a middle round pick here. Mayfield was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Quite a few quarterbacks in his draft class already appear to be challenging for a starting position on Week 1. Josh Rosen is pushing hard in Arizona and Sam Darnold is squarely in the mix with the Jets. Even Lamar Jackson, who was selected towards the end of round one, is pushing the Ravens to get him on the field in some form or fashion.

In fairness to Mayfield, the Browns didn’t select him to be their opening game starter. Instead, they took him because they believed he could grow into the franchise quarterback of their future. The true measurement of his selection will come after several more years in the league.

On the other hand, Browns fans would certainly prefer to hear that Mayfield was showing encouraging signs in camp. Players picked so highly in the draft should at least be flashing big time ability on a regular basis. From the sound of it, Mayfield is struggling to look like anything resembling a starting NFL quarterback.

All the other 1st round QBs are looking good thus far (as I predicted). LeSean McCoy is calling Josh Allen a star. Ravens players are calling Lamar Jackson a young Michael Vick. Josh Rosen is already challenging Sam Bradford. And even Sam Darnold is having some positive buzz. The only 1st round QB not looking good thus far is Baker Mayfield (as I predicted).

Baker Mayfield will be a bust.

The Browns blew it again. Should have taking Barkley #1 & Allen #4. Mayfield has a seriously low floor and his ceiling isn't high enough to be going #1. I'd be presently surprised if turned out to be worthwhile quarterback in the league

He will be fine. That's why Cleveland has Tyrod for. To give Baker time to adjust to the NFL system.

He needs to stay off the field for a season or two

Edit:Personally, I don't think he was the best qb in the draft though. I would have taken Rosen or Jackson

What did I tell you before the draft? This lil white boy simply lacks the physical tools to be a great NFL player. When will you realize he ain't getting any taller or any faster?

This is why you draft ATTRIBUTES and not PRODUCTION. You were enarmored by his college stats. Stats that I told you were a byproduct of the scheme he played in as well as the players on his team and the caliber of competition he faced. His tape (when looking for NFL ability) was mediocre at best. He exhibited almost no NFL caliber throws on tape and his physical tools were not impressive.

Baker Mayfield will NEVER be a star in the NFL. At best he might be a mid-to-low level starter in the NFL at some point like Rex Grossman or Case Keenum. But he'll never live up to being the #1 overall pick.

That's what I said before the draft. I would have taken Barkley and Allen. They were my #1 and #2 overall rated players in the draft. Saquon Barkley was a generational RB and Josh Allen was the most talented QB to enter the draft in years. Both would have formed a foundation for the Browns to be a dynasty in the future. Instead the Browns took Mayfield and Ward. Two guys that are essentially Johnny Manziel and Justin Gilbert all over again. I didn't have eithe rated as 1st round picks.

Cleveland Browns are simply the dumbest franchise in sports history when it comes to the draft.

He had zero business going number 1. Or in the first round

I know. If he would have gone in the 3rd or 4th round, I would have said he was a good value pick and might prove doubters wrong. Instead he went #1 overall which is absolutely silly for a guy like him that lacks elite physical traits.

Never in my life have I heard of a guy being taken #1 where his best comps are outliers (Drew Brees and Russell Wilson). That's how you know you're drafting a bust. When the best case scenarios are guys who basically broke the mold and defied the odds.
