Athletes in every sport ever get better as the sport and time progresses
Trent Richardson would be god in pre-merger NFL. Joe Namath was a hall of famer, he couldn't lace Matt Staffords shoes....
50's-70's era basketball is a joke also. Pre-merger football is also trash. No one addresses it though.
Really. Why does every world record get broken? Every sport team record get broken. Compare Russell westbrook to gail Goodrich.
Trent Richardson :
Hall of famer art Donovan
Breh, athletes in the next era will always be greater than the last. Lebron and KG will be prototypes of tomorrows ballers.
One caveat.
This isn't true if the sport becomes less popular. I'd believe it if some of the boxers from earlier eras could beat today's crew, because no one really wants to box anymore. Long jump numbers suffered for decades because the best sprinters (who make the best long jumpers) didn't want to waste their time and get potential injuries doing LJ anymore.
But in any sport where the popularity remains equal or greater, players tend to improve, and a lot. No one is stupid enough to claim that 1980s swimmers were faster than today's swimmers, because we have numbers...but fools are stupid enough to act like 1930s MLB and 1980s NBA were the shyt just because they got big numbers against crap competition.
Yeah discrediting Ruth is dumb. Because he didn't face a few great black pitchers from the negro leagues his numbers would have went from superhuman to just ok? Lol
It ain't just that. Competition SUCKED back then. Scouts would literally drive around their local area looking to see who was playing on sandlots to find talent.
Ruth didn't just dodge the great Black pitchers, he dodged all the potential great Latino pitchers, Asian pitchers, and hell, probably 80% of the White talent. Nowadays scouts are scouring the countryside for every bit of the talent they can find - they didn't do that shyt back then.
"But but but if he had good nutrition and conditioning coaches he'd be built like Lebron!"
It's like caping for an era when NBA ballers were literally smoking in the locker rooms during halftime.
