Based on the heartbeat law pro-life people tout, shouldn’t it be illegal to take people off life support?

If machines are the only thing keeping someone alive, shouldn’t they be kept alive indefinitely?

An embryo can’t survive outside the womb so more than a brain dead person can’t survive without a ventilator. So what’s the difference?

And shouldn’t pro-lifers being against the death penalty? Against war? Against police shootings?

pro-life people are usually against taking people off life support like in the Terri Schiavo case

the other examples you listed are just pure hypocrisy from them. in other countries some political movements are against the death penalty and abortion like Christian Democracy in europe

Well you can’t take someone off life support without their prior consent or someone with legal authority…but I otherwise support the idea of this thread

It's different because life support is done through machines and meds. A fetus growing in a uterus isn't dependent on machines.

If a blackout happened with no generator backup the person on life support would die. The fetus wouldn't.

For arguments sake, the fetus’ machine is the mother. If the mother stopped eating, or taking care of her metabolic needs, the fetus dies.

You are not saying what you think you are saying. A baby will eventually be born, a brain dead person has lost themselves completely and is only technically alive with the aid of the machine. This scenario is why I support abortion for severe defect's and complications that endanger the mother.

But there are different stages. An embryo doesn’t have a brain at all, yet is treated as if it’s a human. All I’m saying is if a glob of fertilized cells with no brain or nerve system has a right to live, then so should a brain dead fully developed human. If you’re going to go that pro-life route.

I've had conversations with loved ones if I'm on life support for a good amount of time just let me go. A baby doesn't get the opportunity to do that.

Not to mention if you are just brain dead just sitting on life support. Most babies in womb don't even get the opportunity to become brain dead before they are killed.

Yeah. But most women ain't choosing suicide if they're pregnant.

Not to mention life support is a medical intervention, eating is a basic human function. The two are not comparable @OneManGang

You can't compare someone that is brain dead with an embryo that is developing into a human.
We would lock up a woman that killed her newborn baby but somehow a woman killing her fetus is ok.
