Premature to say

It's also premature to say they are legitimate competition when they've only had one show and are still 2 months out from starting TV. Really they're going to need to be around for a few years before being considered legitimate competition by many. WWE's been around in one form or another for almost 70 years and has been so synomous with "wrestling" in America that "wrestling" has been called "WWF/WWE" for 30+ years now. Even in the most down times, and even when WCW was beating them, WWF was the name brand for wrestling in the United States, so it's going to take more than a few sold out shows to get people thinking it's more than an alternative.

He's right though, AEW can be legit competition but not at this stage. They can sell out a stacked card for a one off show, but can they produce consistently good weekly programming? And how long will it take for fans to complain about who the company is focusing on? Because we know that they can say all the right things, but if a certain group of wrestlers are bringing in the ratings then that's who will stay on top.

They don't have to be nor have they said they are. There are a bunch of disgruntled wrestling fans who want something different and are ready, willing and able to pay to see it. WWE certainly sees them as such.
