We gotta start celebrating film milestones in here and today is the 25th anniversary of one of the biggest films ever and certainly the granddaddy or daddy to comic book films as we know them today. Tim Burton's 1989 flick started it all and received the same type of scrutiny and pre fanboy judgement that happens today..funny how things never change. Burton wasn't the right director, Michael Keaton "Mr. Mom" would be a terrible Batman and too silly like Adam West. Then you got Adam West doing press saying he should be batman in the movie because he is the one true batman and this "dark and gritty" thing the studio is doing would never last and would fail. The studio execs were nervous as all hell but low and behold, with Nicholson in the fold and an amount of buzz and hype that was unparalleled at the time, Batman became a damn sensation. Now as you all know, I'm a spider-man dude but if there's one other hero who I've always loved, it's batman and I still remember being a 3 year old with that Batman t shirt, all black with the yellow and black emblem, and being HYPE to see this movie or as hype as a 3 year old can be for anything.

Just look at the damn teaser trailer:

No music, just quick shots to show the tone of the movie. It's hard to believe it but this was a risk at the time. We went from one comic book flick a year being a risk to having four drop this year alone not to mention any other graphic novel adaptation I'm missing. Michael Keaton and Kevin Conroy are my favorite versions of batman but Keaton was always my first impression of batman as a kid and this movie is why

Keaton is still my favorite batman and Bruce Wayne, dude killed the role even if his version of Bruce was dry as hell:russ:

Didn't even realize this was 25 years old:salute:

I'd say his version of Bruce is distracted. He's not comfortable being Bruce and dealing with all the bs. He'd much rather be in that cave working or out on the streets. So when he's Bruce you can tell he's bored as hell

Jack Nickelson da gawd held it down as the Joker until Chief Heath came and crush the buildings :wow:

The soundtrack by Prince is still :blessed:

This is the only movie I've seen Vicki Vale as an on screen character used properly

I'll say this much. Jack's laugh was better. Heath's laugh could be outright terrifying (I'm a man of my word... ) but I thought Jack's version was able to capture that horrific glee in a way Heath's version did not. One of the things that makes the Joker so scary is that he finds humor and delight in things most ordinary people would find petrifying. Things like murder and mayhem aren't just funny to The Joker, they're HILARIOUS to him.

I know the tone of Burton's Batman allowed for a more lighter approach but when Jack's Joker was out there killing people and causing mayhem it really looked like he was having fun. A lot more than Heath's Joker. His maniacal laugh came straight from the belly... almost like he had just heard the funniest joke in the world. Believe it or not that isn't easy for an actor to do but Jack pulled it off flawlessly.
