It has earned about $300 million worldwide thus far, but "Battleship" remains one of the notable failures of the Summer due to its sizeable $209 million budget and only modest return for a tentpole.
Indeed it was overseas grosses ($235M), where the film opened a month earlier, which accounted for most of the film's revenue.
Now, Peter Berg tells MTV News that he'd love to do a sequel and in the process claims the juggernaut success of "The Avengers" pretty much squashed everything in its path including his naval tentpole.
"The movie kicked butt internationally, but we kind of ran into a wall when 'Avengers' refused to go away. So, what I need everyone to do is go see 'Battleship' now that they've seen 'Avengers' five times. If they do that, we can definitely make a sequel" says Berg.
Would he do anything differently if he could do things over? "I would have loved to have come out three weeks before 'The Avengers' domestically, like we did internationally, because 'The Avengers' outperformed everything. It was impossible for 'Battleship' to get any oxygen."

That's why it failed and not the fact the movie was on some "B5, oh you sank my battleship 
shyt."
Smh at this nikka thinking tht just cuz it did good overseas means tht US citizens should go see it.
