Saying 'bless you' when a person sneeze is a tradition that started during The Black Plague. When someone sneezed back then it was an indication that they may have caught the plague and would soon die.
You may have heard that your heart skips a beat when you sneeze, but that’s a myth.
Electrical signals that control your heart rate aren’t affected by the physiological changes that happen when you sneeze. But the heart may get delayed for a second or two before resuming its regular rhythm.
This is one of those myths that does have a kernel of truth to it, says Benjamin S. Bleier, MD, an otolaryngologist at
I corrected it as soon as I saw I was wrong. That I'll admit. Still wrong for it being the reason people say bless you....Be intentionally obtuse brehs , there’s not anything in my post saying your heart beat stops it slows down/delays stupid
.Just like when you take deep breaths to relax
Habbit that was reinforced by parents.
This is the reason my family says it.Your heartbeat gets delayed for 1-2 seconds when you sneeze, that’s why people say god bless you
It's actually rude to do it in certain situations. In college they used get on my nerves, during lectures with about 300 people in one auditoriam. The professor is talking, somebody in the back sneezing every 10 minutes and at least 30 people gotta say bless you everytime. got to the point where it was disruptive. They were like, we're just trying to be polite. im likeAnd why do you think it's the polite thing to do? What's polite about it? It's just some shyt started during Roman times during the plague or "keep the demons at Bay"
i'm trying to hear the lecture. Doing it during standup shows is the same thing but people have no common sense.
