Why do these albums get slept on so hard? Great production from Tip and Dilla, Q-Tip was still flowing his ass off, guest spots from Consequence, Redman and Busta. There's not really a bad song between the two of them.

But when We Got it From Here.... dropped last year people were saying how Tribe was finally back to their Low End/Midnight Marauders standard.

What is the coli consensus on this one?:manny:

OP, you actually reminded me that I need to listen to The Love Movement. :ehh:

Beats, Rhymes, & Life was a weird album for me when I first heard it. I could only imagine how it was when they first dropped it, but it's like they went from two, probably three certified classics that held everybody's attention, to an album that was still dope, but not up to that standard. Also, some of the stuff they were talking about (like on "Crew") caught me off guard. I was sitting here like, "Tribe really made a song about shooting someone? :dwillhuh:"

Part of me feels like the album was too long. Q-Tip didn't need so many solo tracks (he solved this problem on Midnight Marauders but it crept up again) and I think Phife was on to something when he felt like he was being pushed out of the group. Still, there are a lot of great tracks here. An album like this would be a classic for a younger, lesser known group.

Because those albums were lower tier Tribe music compared to Tribe's earlier work
Beats, Rhymes & Life was a good album. The Hop, Jam, Keep It Moving, 1nce Again, and Stressed Out are my favorite songs from that album.
Outside of Find A Way, The Love Movement was boring and scattered.

Not even mentioning Get Ahold and The Pressure. Probably my 2 favorite beats beside Keep It Moving.

Beats, Rhymes, and Life was weird becuz it sounded way different from their previous work. I was kinda mad some nikka named Jay Dee entered the picture and fukked up the dynamic. Plus Tip went thru some kinda life changing experience and changed his religion and name. He just doesn't sound right on the album. The chemistry with Phife was missing as well. Its not a wack album by any means. It just didn't feel right. I actually liked the Love Movement a lot better mostly becuz Dilla was a better producer by then and it just seems like they had more fun making the album. After Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders it would've been hard for Tribe to please us anyway. Both of those albums were damn near perfect

BRL is dope. Just a sonic departure from their earlier work. Midnight Marauders is one of the most expensive albums made due to all the sample clearances at that time. LM is ok, my least favorite ATCQ album.

I think people held ATCQ albums to a higher standard. I remember people complaining about the production when BRL dropped. It was definitely different from what Quest had done on the earlier albums, and had more of a Dilla influence. And the chemistry between Tip and Phife was a little off too, so I get it. But BRL and TLM were both really good albums.
