Well Ye Popped sh!t and Apologized. He said he was wrong and that Beck is a true artist. Now for the record Yes I defended Beck and Yes I am a hip hop Head. One thing I learned a long time a go about music is to just Let it in. Do not let perosnal bias not allow you to open your mind. As a young teenager this funny looking white boy came on my MTV screen. He was trying to rap, I didn't really understand it but I thought it was unique. Then the hook came on and I found myself signing it. I would never buy a single album or song from this art but I would hear his work from time to time and I was aware of him writing and producing his work.
That artist was Beck. That song was "Loser". So when Ye did what he did I thought, "OK, but Beck, really?" So Me a die hard Hip Hop head found myself defending a rock star who I never brought a single album for against a Guy who I have all his album and have supported him when he wasn't even known. Also the argument about "Does it make him more of an artist cause he plays instruments".
As a black male who has played instruments from elementry through college I can tell you it disappointed me to hear other black folks talk down on actually Playing music. This is something we as a culture took pride in as most of the music we created before Hip Hop dealt with Live Instrumentation. Speaking from experience, it's very diffcult to not only play an instrument in making the right note and sound but also to read music. I'm not one to say "You have to play and read music to be an artist". That's wrong. But I would never talk down on an artist that does cause it's diffcult. I'm glad Ye back tracked on Beck. I listen to all types of music, even Country. Music is Universal and you should never miss out on a great song cause it's not in the genre that you love the most.
