Man, I'm really saddened Hype Williams hasn't done more movies. In retrospect, the most appealing aspect of Belly is it's usage of colors and imagery. So vivid and refined. I feel this movie hasn't gotten the acclaim it received even back then. Nas' acting is so so but DMX's performance is damn near award worthy.

Belly is kind of a mess but it's an interesting one. And damn does it look good. Also DMX puts in some good acting work.

i know he randomly pops up and shoots a video here and there...but what else ? is he just livin off them old checks at this point?

Saw a great article in either The Source or XXL that explained why Belly was so GOOD and TERRIBLE all at the same time...
The ran out of money making the movie basically...

That's why the first half is good and the 2nd half is wack because it was rushed and re-written over and over...
The movie was actually supposed be a push for Islam actually...

Nas was supposed to have read a book (The Quran) that would allow him to look into the future, thats why he stopped hustling and went to Africa...
But they decided that was too heavy and didn't really go into that part...

That's why at the end DMX was supposed to kill that Minister to keep the message of Islam from spreading to more black people...
