WASHINGTON — Ben Carson says he would have led a charge against the Oregon shooter if he were in the community college classroom when the gunfire erupted.
“Not only would I probably not cooperate with him, I would not just stand there and let him shoot me. I would say, ‘Hey, guys, everybody attack him! He may shoot me but he can’t get us all,’ ” the soft-spoken Carson said Tuesday on “Fox and Friends.”
The gunman, Chris Harper-Mercer, asked his victims at Umpqua Community College their religions before opening fire last Thursday, killing nine and injuring nine others.

Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, has gained social media fame in the days since by posting a picture of himself holding a sign reading: “I am a Christian.”
In the wake of another deadly shooting, Hillary Clinton, President Obama and other leading Democrats have called for tougher restrictions on obtaining guns.
The GOP field of presidential contenders has largely resisted gun control and instead focused on treating the mentally ill.
Obama will visiting Oregon on Friday as part of a previously scheduled West Coast swing to grieve with the victims’ families.
Carson criticized the president for making the visit when asked if he’d do the same if he entered the White House.
“Probably not. Isn’t this about the people? This whole country — of, for and by the people. Why don’t people understand that?” Carson said.
