Canibus and Eminem arent similar at all. I dont even like that cac Eminem, but when he came out he was dope and different. He had a great flow and also a form of humor a black rapper probably couldnt have gotten away with. He still wouldve been popular with black people who listened to hiphop. But no way white/non hiphop listeners wouldve checked for him .

Something I find fascinating is how people will say an individual is not relevant and then complain/bytch about them not speaking up on issues or make them the focal point of an interview......If talking about Eminem is generating clicks/buzz negative or positive, then he still has some relevancy.........Let's also keep in mind that Eminem is a hermit/private. So he's not trying to get attention every day of the week like some of the other celebs/entertainers.

He's not wrong at surface level, but Canibus did all the wrong things with his debut and who he let handle it. Eminem did all the right things in marketing himself based on his skills and image

Clef and Jerry Wonder didn't know how to market someone like Canibus. Dre and Jimmy embraced the shock value and antics

He was the catalyst to rap really blowing up and becoming the main popular "genre" for young people. It was already happening in the late 90s, but he blew the doors wide open and suddenly the audience for rap domestically and globally was huge.

Whether that can be taken as a net positive or negative for rap is certainly up for debate, but you can't really deny his impact and how he resonated with the white masses and brought in a massive audience

The fact that he actually had skills and tried to promote legends and new talent gave him a lot of goodwill IMO, because the music has been mostly terrible for a long time
