Add-ons are what make Firefox run worse... but if you are using Adblock Plus, switch to Ublock Origin
Noscript. You'll never get a virus again and your shyt will run fast as hell because it disables all Java and flash.
It does take some time getting used to though, as you have to manually tell the add on which sites and extensions you deem safe.
