Not really sure if The Coli is up on Mark Messier but I doubt it consedering hes a Hockey player but its about time he gets his respect as the best Captain in sports history. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy (MVP of the playoffs) in 1984 with Gretzky on his team. He won the cup obviosuly in 84 but also won in /85/87/88/90 which in 90 Gretzky was no longer there and he took over as captain which people doubted they could still win but he still took them to and won the cup. After leaving the Oilers Gretzky never won a cup again.

Messier got traded to the New York Rangers in 91 and promised to take a jinxed franchise who hadnt won a cup since 1940 to the promised land. In 94 against all odds as a captain he guarnteed they would win the Eastern Confernce Championship even though they were down 3-2 and this is what happened

Scores a Hat Trick in the third period and wins the series and eventually breaks the curse and as the captain wins a cup with the cursed Rangers.

He also scored the game winner in the finals in 94 to win the cup.

Respect to a truly great winner and the best captain in sports history.

Awful comparison..Messier is a better hockey player than Pippen is a basketball player..Easily..Way more legendary moments..won as the man, twice!!!

You know, now that I think about it...Game 7 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals is arguably the last classic NYC championship game outside of baseball :ohhh:

Super Bowls between the Pats/Giants was not played in NYC.

Edit: Nope, Game 5 Knicks-Rockets @ MSG was 3 days after that game (OJ Chase).
