Best standalone media player ???

im looking for a player with external HD support that can play mp4, mkv, and avi.

can anyone point me in the the right direction?

yea i use my 360 and ps4 but i need something as a gift for someone else. i was looking at a roku 3, but it doesnt support avi. then the western digital doesnt have netflix.... like wtf ? is there anything that has it all ? i mostly only need it for the external HD support. this person already has a streaming device, but it would be nice to have it all.
