Beta & Prototype Re-Creations...Why bother?

What are the Coli's thoughts on beta recreations of games, usually released as mods?

For example, Super Gold 97 & 97 Reforged were made as a way of experiencing the complete beta version of Pokemon gold using assets and concepts from the unfinished Spaceworld 97 demo.



Do yall think its worth it, or a waste of time?

There's some interesting things to recreate.

The original Pokémon games were intended to have you select your gender.

Ocarina Of Time once having the idea of collecting the Triforce. Or that fancy Unicorn Fountain which was probably flipped into the Fairy Fountain.

Mario 64 multiplayer mode.

Halo 2's presentation level eventually got recreated.

I like the idea but I think I prefer using as much of the original code and assets as possible for intention reasons. There's shytty romhacks and there's stuff like this, if you know what I mean.

Its funny you brought those three up, because there are currently attempts to bring those three back

a lot of these are using the original code/assets or in the case of the female trainer, recreating the promo art.

The Zelda one has custom code as the overdump only contained maps without scripting, but it tries to be faithful to what was shown on the VHS promo tape as well as following the layout of the map in the overdump cart.
