Just finished reading this--I'm not familiar with the political landscape of Harlem and what not. What really stood out to me was the sort of (what seems to me. Be interested to hear anything disputing) perpetual tendency of black leadership to be on that "wait you're not ready shyt". Kind of obvious reason as to why Rangel, Jackson, and Sharpton still feature so prominently and why people like West and Smiley go super hard at MHP. These dudes don't want to lose their cache.

Spot on. I think these 'leaders' still have the mentality that we need to ask others for hand outs instead of building up our own infrastructure. They are completely out of touch.

The civil rights era was profitable for these guys, so they have an incentive to prolong it. Our number one priority should be to reduce our incarcerated population while upping our education level. We need leaders like Walron and Dr Umar who want to build ou communities, not the sharptons who want to cry injustice and make other groups see us as pathetic.
