This album (Reloaded) is a landmark that changed the whole sound of the “independent/underground” scene that still resonates to this day.
Yessir. And the rest of these nikkas take themselves way too seriously. Roc is damn near a comedian. Son is also super witty. Son is the Jay Z of the underground. One of many reasons no one has really caught up is because a lot of people took the wrong message from Reloaded sonically. It wasn't simply the minimalist drums or soul samples. There were also multiple "left" sounds on there that no one really tries to replicate. Tracks like Peru showed that Roc was willing to dig for completely different sounds, he wasn't afraid of venturing beyond obvious types of samples or loops. Same with Death Parade, which kinda had RZA vibes in the chop/loop. Roc has had those types of tracks on every album since. He's always trying different shyt.
Even the Alchemist album...most people probably expected a lot of soul loops. They said fukk that and touched multiple genres, sample wise.
Don't get me wrong, Roc is one of my favorite MC's in the last decade across the board, he's very interesting to me. And while I'm sure plenty of people prefer Marcberg, I didn't hear it til after Reloaded and it just didn't come off as seamless.. And all his music that has dropped after it makes it feel like some sort of a fluke.
THIS. I can only listen to so much super gangsta nikka shyt where you shoot 1000 people and rob 2000. Roc got jokes, he's slick as hell, and there are a lot of references in his bars that make you say ok this guy def on some shyt (books, films, etc). He's more MF DOOM than gangsta rap in my opinion. Like he's from where he's from but there are layers.Yessir. And the rest of these nikkas take themselves way too seriously. Roc is damn near a comedian. Son is also super witty.
