In terms of quality theyre on the same level but Prince gets the edge because was way more creative and a bit more consistent.

You really can't name 3 artists who had a run as good as or better than Stevie's in the 70's. Prince had an amazing run in the 80s but it was very inconsistent. He'd drop an all time classic like "Purple Rain" then follow it up with "Around the World in a Day", then he'd drop "Sign o the times" then do something like "Lovesexy". Every idea he had in his mind was a good idea and that just wasn't the case for him. Stevie's joints were only really getting better with each one until he dropped "Song in the Key of Life" which just couldn't humanly be topped.
