DoJ definitely doesn’t have anywhere near the appropriated budget to pay 1000s of people 6 figure sums or even 5 figures. Where do you think appropriated funds come from?

That’s the thing, its a lawsuit. Those are heard in courts under the judicial branch, not the executive. The original rumor, which seems to be intentionally misleading makes it seem like this is some unilateral decision being made by the executive branch.

As far as this suit, who knows? Trump has appointed about 25% of the federal judges in this country. Usually the outcomes will coincide with the political leanings of the judge even though that’s not always the case.

White House walks back Biden comments on migrant families payments

Migrants are going to get something. Likely less than $450k, but something. Anything is too much. Their rationale is they wpuod be paying less by settling than the whole thing going to court.

If I were in charge, I'd say let them go to court. The whole thing happened under Trump. If the migrants get breaded out, I'd blame Trump for the policy.
