ok look. i've been thinking.

:jbhmm:

a crazy asss man and saying all kinds of crazy shiit to make insane amount of marketing noise made us cringe. we reacted like typical haters brehs. i admit i hated lavar ball for making us look bad. BBB is repulsive. hate that shiit. ugly as hell. Lonzo's shoe look like my kobe VI. i've had it for like 6 years. it ain't cool no more.

BUT

i'm slowly changing my tune. i can see the big picture. and it's clear to me now. LAVAR BALL IS NOT ONLY GENIUS, BUT HE WILL MAKE A LASTING IMPACT.

He just opened the pandora's box brehs.

welcome to the new era of small yet unique boutique brands that will challenge big brands.

i think it's the movement.
like how tiny house became a thing, this may become a thing.

i don't know how long it will last doe. i remember cacs loving them airwalks back in 90's. i never understood it, but every damn cacs had it. hell some nikkas copped them too. it was skateboard shoe brand, but it also had a general appeal.

but it died out fast because bad brand management. but for a brief time a no name brand called airwalks were the coolest shoe to kids. why did kids bought them? because it was unique and it was cool.

anyway my point is - i think BBB it will create more small brands to emerge.

these will be higher end.
boutique brands.
it ain't gonna be no shaq shoes.
aint gonna be linining or anta.
it's be like BBB where it's super expensive, targeted towards people who got tired of Nikes and Js.
it's exclusive.
it will be priced $200-$400. maybe even more.
it may not just a hoop shoe. it can also have lifestyle shoe.
like yeezys.
athlete teaming up with celebs. major hype collab.
young entrepreneurs who also are baller wanting to have a career after the hoop.

and now lonzo will be a laker, i fully expect BBB to take off. magic will make sure lonzo will get better. i know BBB is ugly as hell, but it only takes few good designers to completely change from trash to good. but this means something must change. i still cringe with their ugly branding brehs.

i really wish them the best luck now. i know lavar ball is crazy, but let's face it. he's harmless. he's just goofy old man enjoying his 15 min of fame.

but i think his 15 min fame won't die out as long as lonzo can ball. and if that happens 7-8 years later we gonna look back and say 'damn these nikkas changed the shoe world for real'

just 2 cents nikkas

Yeezy had a hit with Nike.

He didn't go independent. He signed with a deal with Adidas.

It's a lot more than just recognition and exposure. It's logistics, marketing dollars, manufacturing, overhead...on a GRAND SCALE.

Not many truly independent companies out there. Even 'boutique' brands are usually owned by holding companies or have white label / licensing deals.

All the power to BBB and black excellence but Under Armor is barely holding it's head above water.

I been trying to tell nikkas its less about lonzo and more about the bigger picture

Like even if lonzo doesnt pan out he still opened up the floodgates and showed upcoming athletes they can have their own shoe with potential to make way more money longterm with ownership as opposed to being a nike endorser

plus.. lavar has 1 more chance with lamelo who may very well end up even better than lonzo(I dont think gelo will go far but id love to be wrong)

when that BBB boutique opens up on fairfax:whew:

i'm thinkin something like this will happen

a charismatic baller + young and ambitious designer = cool, hip, focused brand

this is Brand Black. their lead guy is jamal crawford

doesn't look half bad. but obviously they came before BBB. it didn't make the proper marketing noise. not many heard about them. i'm not saying all the new comers have to follow BBB and say crazy asss shiit. but there's a way to properly market higher end product.

it will take a brave and charismatic nikka with an entrepreneurial mentality, but i think it will happen. nobody wants to be owned by nike unless they get paid sh11t load of money.

hell, my boy is dhani jones and he sells bowties. he did that because he was passionate about becoming an entrepreneur

But whose next? :jbhmm:

The only prospect I think who could make an apparel line is Isaiah Washington because he already has a lot of popularity at a grassroots level with the Jelly Fam movement. Also, has the swagger and flashy game to appeal to the masses. He's a good not great prospect like Lonzo though.

Nike realized his popularity and marketing potential early and they ALREADY collaborating with him, he hasn't played a college game yet. Peep the gear...

What we thinking beloved @.0.ggggggod.*, for uptown

it can also be current players after they got out the nike/adidas contract too.

i mean just look at john wall. nikka was copping this crap

and this

Reebok-John-Wall-Season-III-3-ZigEscape-1.jpg

and then this

John-Wall-Adidas.jpg

i mean he dealt with couple of ugly asss shoes early and now he ain't cool no more. it takes years to develop the name even within the big corporate giants. i still haven't seen a good melo shoe yet. nobody likes melo's. cp3s also suck. it's always on 50% off sales too.

i think there are will be many young designers who are business savvy forming an alliance with athletes and artists to do something special. BBB paved the road on how. now it will take good design to get some real respect.

and we may even see a nikka baller taking his brand to shark tank. that would also be a good marketing push.

this approach ain't for the weak. it's for those who has passion and energy to go big. obviously lavar ball has that quality in him. i doubt his approach will be duplicated unless there's another lavar ball. but who knows? maybe there's a nikka who comes out and say 'I'm Bron with MJ killer instinct' who backs his game up on the court, and signs with some up and coming brand with good design, but no marketing push. he joins and becomes a perfect spokesman. price their flagship shoe at $350 with a good logo and good design sensibility. it don't need all kinds of technology. it just need to look clean and easy cop on the street.
