Yeah but the Amex plat + Amex Marriott bonvoy can allow you to double up on Amex points. Might as well stay in the Amex ecosystem no?
I do agree that the southwest card is great (but it depends on where you fly/where you’re located).

Pre-qualify for the Gold but don't know if I should dive in yet.

Yeah, this is good point. I really hadn't even considered an AmEx until getting some real world feedback from brehs in here. And all because for the most part, everybody in here was just cool and willing to share info.
