While they worried about single sales them albums flopped
Oh lord lord lord there they go
Tryin to fukk me out another budget I ain't a hoe

Ima drop another mixtape and go on tour"

"We ain't playin games, mayne I'm too grown
For you to try to take me out of my mothafukkin zone
For you to try to tell me I ain't mothafukkin known
I guess I gotta do it how I done it on my own"

"I been a free agent nikka.. I been a free agent nikka

cool little song. He's gonna look like an idiot if he still thinks he's gonna blow & sign to another major tho.

shyt done changed between then and now

I think KRIT is fully aware he's not going to blow. It's the conditions of his contract with Def Jam that he hated the most. Like he said in the song, KRIT hardly had a budget because he never needed one -- he produces the vast, vast majority of his music and writes all of his material. He's got good working relationships with heavy players in the South, so I doubt the price tag on his features was that high. Plus the label taking an absurdly high % of his album sales from him when he's the one composing all of the music. Not to mention touring and other income that KRIT generates that Def Jam gets to chip away at.

It's about his paper and integrity. I doubt he cares much about blowing. Cadillactica sold close to 60,000 copies with zero radio play. KRIT has a niche fan base that will buy his music, whether he's independent or signed.

I agree. I'm glad he's come to that conclusion and truthfully, you have to be at peace with that before you decide to go about it that way. Too many fans expect you to go that route even if you still tryna blow.

Truth. I never understood why a lot of rapper/producers sign to majors. If they're making their own beats and can get a good distribution deal, there is zero need for a major contract. It's actually counterproductive. I doubt KRIT leaving Def Jam will sour his relationship with Big Boi, T.I., Ludacris, Ross, or any of his frequent collaborators. He still gets to offer his services to other artists without the overhead of a label contract. Win-win for KRIT.

How do distribution companies work? I know they move the product around the globe, but what's the stipulations on those contracts?

going off whats been happening since his independence its been very positive for the guy

trending on 12 for 12, Hip Hop awards, etc

wouldnt be surprised if some more good shyt comes his way after being freed.

Guy is loved by peers, hip hop fans, etc all he needs is some of those casual fans and he good.

guy most likely will not get to Drake and Cole level. But he could get somewhere
