Maybe so, but they weren't getting a new core by adding a 33 year old Charles Barkley.

1996-97 was Barkley's 1st year with Houston.
But frankly it might not have mattered whether he was there or not.

That year the Bulls followed up a 72-win season with a 69-win season on their way to a 2nd title in a row............and they probably would have beaten anyone.

I said "New" core, not younger.

He's a 100% right. Chuck was finished at that point and Pippen was damn near finished when they got him.

Barkley has admitted he had nothing in the tank when he got to Houston.

Barkley was brought in to win a Championship. That didn't happen.

Only thing positive the Rockets got out of the Barkley trade was finally beating the SuperSonics in the play-offs. Rockets used to could never beat the Sonics. That Rockets/Sonics rivalry was insane back in the 80s/90s.

it wasnt a terrible trade or a mistake, hakeem only had one year left as a 20-10 guy and drexler only had 2 years left period and had already fallen off dramatically from his play on the 2nd title team. if the 95-96 rockets team stayed intact and added kevin willis they wouldnt have gone as far as the barkley rockets. horry, cassell, and chucky brown were their only players under 30, its not like as hakeem was fading that they were going to build around that trio the next 5 years.
