Despite rampant speculation that he could return to the sidelines, former Steelers coach Bill Cowher doesn’t see himself taking an NFL coaching job.

Cowher said on CBS This Morning that he plans to continue working on television for the foreseeable future.

“I’ve never closed the door,” Cowher said. “But it’s highly unlikely any time in the near future you’ll see me coach.”

Cowher has sent mixed signals in the past about whether he wants to return to coaching, and he said “never say never” today when talking about the possibility that he’ll return. That suggests that he might come back some day, if the right opportunity arises.

But the right opportunity is apparently not in Washington: A day after General Manager Bruce Allen said he hadn’t contacted Cowher, Cowher confirmed that.

“There’s nothing to that. I was never contacted by the Washington Redskins,” Cowher said.

Some day, some team might contact Cowher at a time when he has the itch to return, with an opportunity that sounds too good to pass up. But Cowher doesn’t sound like that day will be any time soon.

Cowher is done as a coach. He is highly comfortable talking about Football on Sundays, and getting a chance the rest of the week to be with his family.

glad he not being considered by the Skins.

He gonna enjoy being overrated historically, being a talking head, and dressing like this:

on the way to the HOF.

He'd be perfect for Cleveland if they gave him complete control

That TV job is too comfortabel for these cats. THey dont have to wake up early anymore. I cant blame them. I dont see him, Jimmy Johnson nor Grueden ever coaching again

I wouldn't go back to coaching either. Same reason Gruden doesn't go back to coaching, too much stress. Stay on TV and be able to be home

I was just about to ask, do ya'll think this is the same reason Gruden and Herm Edwards don't seem to have that itch to coach anymore?

Sports seem to focus so much on the players and coaches are obsessed with the craft like Kobe, Peyton Manning, Belichick and Popovich. Sometimes I think the people who love the sports, but don't neccessarily love the grind enough to stay around for an extended period of time are seen as if something is wrong with them. Like players, maybe some coaches wana have their success, collect their money, and then leave for other less stressful endeavors.

I love Gruden, Herm, and Jeff Van Gundy's commentary, so if they're happy with what they're doing I'm glad they're sticking to the TV life. Could care less about Cowher either way though. Ravens fans don't got no love for that dude :pacspit:

I'd rather commute to NYC every weekend in the Fall to do a show and be at home all the time myself and still get paid well. It's a no brainer. He's done pretty much all you can do as a coach... plus like Gruden he was a HC at a young age.
