Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Promises Home-Testing Kits for Coronavirus

Testing for the novel coronavirus in the Seattle area will get a huge boost in the coming weeks as a project funded by Bill Gates and his foundation begins offering home-testing kits that will allow people who fear they may be infected to swab their noses and send the samples back for analysis. Results, which should be available in one to two days, will be shared with local health officials who will notify those who test positive.

Via online forms, infected people can answer questions about their movements and contacts, making it easier for health officials to locate others who may need to be tested or quarantined, as well as to track the virus' spread and identify possible hot spots.

Initially, the lab will be able to conduct about 400 tests a day, eventually expanding to thousands of tests a day, said Scott Dowell, leader of coronavirus response at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The project is ramping up as quickly as possible, but it's not clear exactly when it will launch, he added. Among other things, software needs to be upgraded to handle the expected crush of requests, and a detailed questionnaire finalized for people who request tests. "Although there's a lot to be worked out, this has enormous potential to turn the tide of the epidemic," Dowell said.

I understand why some people might think this guy is evil because of being the richest man in the world etc but his an average joe, met him couple of times. Once when he gave us a scholarship in high school and years later solo dolo in line buying a burger from a dikks restaurant.
I welcome this move, our city that he also resides in has over 1000 Chinese virus cases with almost 70 deaths. It's a welcome move :salute:

He's openly a eugenicist and an arrogant monopolist :dead:
Literally crushing innovation and undermining ideas while basing a huge chunk of his enterprise software off of free labor - and yes pushing eugenicist policies in West and Central Africa.

He's literally evil, we don't "think" he's evil.

United States v. Microsoft Corp. was a Supreme Court case against Microsoft concerning anti-trust, and the deliberate stifling of tech innovation in favor of monopolistic practices, either you're too young or don't pay attention - this was a landmark case in anti-trust litigation against the "supercompanies" of the burgeoning techworld.

I'm not talking about "vaccines" or any of the conspiracy theories around Bill Gates - I'm talking about his deliberate use of "overpopulation" (a myth, if one has a baseline understanding of the world economy, city-planning, agriculture, or water access), and his literal push to slow the population growth in the youngest areas of the world (namely West and Central Africa). Rather than pushing to end the debt peonage or debt capital systems and improve infrastructure.

That case was over bundling Internet Explorer into the windows OS.

It's an interesting case, one that was controversial at the time, but in hindsight we can all laugh at how big of a joke it was considering by the time the settlement was reached web providers like AOL were almost nonexistent, not due to a web browser, but the introduction of high speed internet.

Subsequently, both IE and Netscape died, replaced by Firefox and Google took over the ad space with a superior search engine.

Microsoft buying up companies to innovate would be considered a better model, but that's not unique to Bill gates nor Microsoft. That's just good capitalism.

From your article:

He sounds puzzled: “You would think politicians would compete on the basis of, ‘Hey, I’m going to run a primary health system really well, I’m going to get vaccination coverage up, I’m going to save lives …’ But other issues about religion and ethnicity come to the fore.”

Occam's razor would say Bill gates seems to care about vaccinations and health care and therefore is investing his efforts into that space.

Considering his net worth and investment potential, he's not investing as much as he should or could if he genuinely cares.
And eugenics still play at the root - healthcare is secondary.

And the bundling was the catalyst for a much deeper scrutinizing of the company's monopolistic practices. Profiting off of open source software and ideas is quite the anti-thesis of open-source as its core - and it was literally theft on a very basic level.

You're moving all over the place.

You made a few bold claims that don't stand up to scrutiny to discredit the effort by Bill gates to help provide Covid-19 as some part of his evil agenda.

The boldest of those claims is that he's a eugenicist. You've yet to provide backup for that.

You've only shown that he's spent a lot of time, money and resources in Africa and India with regard to population group and vaccinations.

One of the biggest claims from people I know who've worked for the foundation isn't really that nefarious.

It's more along the lines that it's "Representative of the white moderates mlk warned us about."
