HBO seems stuck in this baby boomer funk. A TV show for Simmons was never a good idea given his personality, which is rather boring. He's more of a niche thing, someone you let host a podcast or youtube show....
Same thing with HBO greenlighting that horrible rock n roll show (Vinyl) which was cancelled after one season. On one hand they have a lot of diverse comedies but then you get shyt like Vinyl or Simmons that just make you wonder wtf is this.
Yes the "black guy and white guy discussing sports" thing is cliche...but HBO could do it with their own twist. Just like The Wire is a twist on procedural cop shows, The Sopranos is a twist on the mob, etc. Give me a dope, explicit sports show with no hot takes or bullshyt opinions. The antithesis of Stephen A Smith/Skip Bayless. Give me like...Bomani Jones and [insert good white co-host] talking sports, music, tv, movies, etc with no filter. Give me panels like Bill Maher has, with various sports people talking about multiple topics. Give me an ep with Kaep and Obama on the panel talking race and sports. Dope shyt people actually want to see, not the typical "Groundhog's Day sure was a great movie, and I love Goodfellas too" cac talk.
