I think its dumb personally I mean ALL of these digital downloads are the same damn thing whether they come from an artist website or Amazon or iTunes.

Just seems like another means of screwing over the artist just like when they banned bundles from counting towards sales. Who gives a fukk if a fan gets a t-shirt or a concert ticket with their music purchase? The artist has to have FANS in the first place willing to purchase correct?

Just another reason we shouldn't care about sales from a consumer standpoint.

The artists themselves now also need to make sure that they aren't being screwed by this by making sure their contracts don't have billboard sales numbers as barometers for success, but actual raw revenue, which merch should qualify

:mjlol: y'all still ain't know all these streaming numbers been cooked. None of it's real. All manipulated. Gone are the days of Soundscan where you knew exactly what was sold each week.
Soundscan was just as bulls#it. Labels use to buy records and manipulate the scans all the time. The only thing that’s changed is the platform.

Cause you prolly got artists signed to contracts where those numbers mean a lot, this is 100% backed by major labels so they artists can have even less information on their numbers and true worth

Any time artists figure out a way to get their own set of numbers that they can use in contract talks (in this instance the number of single downloads from their own sites)

You get this, a rule to take whatever negotiation power that held, and toss it in the bushes

This is bad and not the outcome I think artist wanted when hearing that they were revising the rules.

A digital download is more a clear correlation than even streams.

I think a lot of the underground/less mainstream artist that have loyal fanbases might suffer from this (Griselda, Nas, Gibbs) because their audience rocks wth their merch site and direct downloads/Vinyls made to order etc
